Joseph Zoderer was born in Meran in 1935; since 1981 he has been a free-lance writer, although he started to be involved with literature in the late 1950s. Many of his works bear the marks of his native region; in 1974 he published a collection of poems written in dialect. He has won many prizes, including the New York Stipend of the German Literature Foundation in 1986.
