- WEBER, Peter
- Peter Weber, born in Wattwil/Toggenburg in 1968, published his first novel, Der Wettermacher , in 1993. It became one of the best-selling first novels for the Suhrkamp Publishing House. The novel has gained overwhelming critical acclaim. Der Spiegel summarizes the reaction to Weber's novel as follows: "Switzerland is rejoicing, and the rest of the world is in amazement." Weber's novel has been compared to almost all the greats of contemporary German-language literature: Hans Henny Jahnn, Arno Schmidt, and--again and again--Günter Grass. However, Weber's style is more lyrical, and there is a touch of Jean Paul present, too. Furthermore, Weber plays free jazz whose musical quality is also felt in the novel.
