- THEOBALDY, Jürgen
- Jürgen Theobaldy
was born in Strasbourg in 1944 and raised in Mannheim. He attended
college in Freiburg, Heidelberg, Cologne, and Berlin. He has lived
in Bern, Switzerland, since 1984. Influenced early on the the German
student movement of the late 1960s and by American beat poets, his
poetry and prose often reflect the subjective experience of everyday
life. This characteristic shows in the story included in Vol. 7,
No. 2/3; however, the story is unusual because it is told from a
"second-person" perspective, which makes individual subjectivity
seem unfamiliar because the narrator (whose own subjectivity remains
"outside" the story) tells the other person ("you")
about that person's subjective experience.
