- SCHERZER, Landolf
- Landolf Scherzer, born
in Dresden in 1944, made a name for himself with critical reports
during the GDR. These reports got him expelled from university,
where he had studied journalism. He became a jounalist anyway and,
in 1975, a freelance writer. In 1988 he published a collection of
critical reports, titled Der Erste (The First Man), which
chronicles Scherzer's time observing one county's first secretary
of the Communist Party, the most powerful local position, comparable
to that of a county commissioner. After unification, Scherzer again
spent about amonth observing the work of the same county's commissioner,
this time a former military officer from West Germany.
