Dimension2: Contemporary German-Language Literature

MORGNER, Irmtraud
Irmtraud Morgner was born in Chemnitz in 1938. She died in 1990, leaving her opus magnum—the trilogy of novels about the life of the trobadora Beatriz—unfinished. The first two novels, published in 1974 and 1983, respectively, are complemented by the posthumous publication of the fragmentary last novel Das heroische Testament. Though unfinished, the trilogy has established Morgner as a major feminist writer and one of the very few German-language writers who are at home in the realm of first-rate fantasy stories.
