Kito Lorenc was born in Schleife/Slepe in 1938 as the grandson of the Sorb writer Jakub Lorenc-Zaleski. After he studied Slavic Languages, he first became a research assistant at the Institute for Sorbic Studies and then wrote for the State Ensemble for Sorbic Folklore. Since 1979 he has lived as a free-lance writer. He writes poetry both in German and Sorbic and has been awarded several literary prizes including the Heinrich Heine Prize 1974 and the Heinrich Mann Prize 1991. The poems printed in Volume 3, Number 2 are previously unpublished and were made available by the author himself through mediation of Uwe Kolbe.
