- Brigitte Kronauer was
born in Essen in 1940. Before she became a freelance writer in 1971,
she taught school in Aachen and Göttingen. She writes poetry
and prose, as well as essays. She has been hailed as one of hte
important contemporary writers on account of her prose style. Her
breakthrough came in 1980 with the novel Frau Mühlenbeck
im Gehäus (Mrs. Mühlenbeck in the House).
