- KOLBE, Uwe
- Uwe Kolbe was born in
East Berlin in 1957 and, after having lived in Hamburg and after
lengthy stays abroad, now lives again in the eastern part of Berlin.
He emerged early as a poet of major stature; his collection of poems,
Hineingeboren [1980, Born Into], has been credited with expressing--even
in its title--the feeling of the young generation. After several
moves in Germany and lengthy stays abroad (starting in 1985, when
he was issued a travel visa by the GDR), he has now returned to
Berlin after a multi-year appointment to teach creative writing
athe the University of Tübingen. The poems in Volume 7, Number
2/3 illustrate Kolbe's typical emphasis on personal experience and
a personal tone.
