- KLING, Thomas
- Thomas Kling, born in
1957 in Bingen and passed away on April 1, 2005. He earned a reputation
as one of the most important poets writing in German after his first
book appeared on the literary scene in 1986: erprobung herzstärkender
mittel [testing heart-strengthening medication]. His poems have
been compared to those of Ernst Jandl; in fact, considering the
momentum, combinatory suggestiveness, and linguistic brilliance
of Kling's poems, one critic has declared the beginning of the post-Jandl
era for German poetry. Kling was awarded the Else-Lasker Schüler
Prize for his poetry.
