Wolfgang Hegewald was born in Dresden in 1952. Similar to many of his colleagues, he suffered under the conditions of the German Democratic Republic, where he was not even allowed to publish. He was able to leave that country in 1983. Today he lives in the southern German town of Tübingen, where he directs the Studio for Literature and Theater at the University of Tübingen. He has been awarded several prizes for his literary work that includes Jakob Oberlin oder Die Kunst der Heimat [1987; Jacob Oberlin or The Art of Home], Eine kleine Feuermusik [1994; A Little Fire Music], and, most recently, Der Saalkandidat, literally, "The Candidate from the Audience," a title which refers to a game show similar to This is Your Life
Der Saalkandidat (This is Your Life ): Vol. 3, No. 1
