Ludwig Harig, born in Sulzbach in the Saarland in 1927, still lives there. He has been a freelance writer since 1974, and his works, often grounded in his native Saarland, have won many awards. His last three highly autobiographical novels form a trilogy, in which the narrator comes to cope with his own history: Ordnung ist das halbe Leben [1986; Orderliness is Everything], Weh dem, der aus der Reihe tanzt [ 1990; Woe Be to him Who Steps out of Line], and Wer mit den Wölfen heult, wird Wolf [To Howl with the Wolves is to Join the Pack].
