- Bernhard Fischer, born
in 1956, studied German literature, philosophy, and art history
in Bonn, where he received his Ph.D. with a dissertation on Thomas
Bernhard in 1984. In 1985 he received a post-doctoral grant from
the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 1988 he became the director
of the DFG-sponsored project on the "Repertory of literary journals
1945-1970" at the German Literary Archives; since 1992 he has been
the head of the Cotta-Archiv [archive of the Cotta Publishing
House] at Marbach. He has published on poetics and the philosophy
of Gottfried Benn, Thomas Bernhard, and on the subject of literary
journals. He has also organized exhibits of Therese Huber and the
literature of the nineteen fifties.
