- BUCH, Hans Christoph
- Hans Christoph Buch, born in 1944, has had a long-standing fascination with the Third World, especially Haiti. He has written an important trilogy of novels about that island: Die Hochzeit von Port-au-Prince [1984; The Wedding of Port-au-Prince], Haiti Cherie [1990], and Rede des toten Kolumbus am Tag des Jüngsten Gerichts [1992; Speech of the Dead Columbus on Judgment Day]. He has also written many essays on the Third World as well as a short poetics, Die Nähe und die Ferne [1991; Closeness and Distance], based on his poetics lectures given at the University of Frankfurt. His latest novel, Der Burgwart der Wartburg , marks his literary return to current German issues, of course, in his very own approach that combines history and magic realism.
